Anyone know how to unzip disguised files?

Hey guys!

I have Adobe Audition 2.0, which I took from a friend in order to have on my computer. What it is is that the entire program is 'disguised' as an image (when you look at icons, it shows as a jpeg image, not a program).

I was told I needed to use Winzip to open it.. but it isn't opening/extracting, etc. Anyone able to help? ;p
And no, I didn't buy Winzip, I have the evaluation version.

Thanks!

- Noe

I suppose by 'disguised', your friend has probably changed the file extension from ZIP to JPG.

So simply rename the file from Audition.jpg to Audition.zip

But ensure first that you can see all file extensions in Explorer. If you can't, in Explorer, go to:

Tools --> Folder Options --> View [tab] --> and then remove tick from "Hide extensions for known file types".

Then open/extract in WinZIP. Evaluation version is perfectly fine.

If changing the extension to .zip still won't let you see the program try changing it to .rar

or .iso .... using a text viewer to 'read' the file will sometimes help you determine the proper format of the file ... for instance zip files always begin with the first two bytes being PK ... so opening the file up in notepad should show the first two letters as 'PK' ... .rar files start with a 'Rar!' ... .jpg files start with 'ÿØÿà JFIF' ... iso files however unfotunately do not have a tag that would make them recognisable ...

it sounds like it may be an .iso image.. just install poweriso or magic iso and then the file will be recognised(if it's an iso or img file..) you could then extract or burn it with PowerIso etc or Nero or similar to cd/dvd.. or just install from the extracted files.
