funny thing is, on my second Vista installation I managed to disable this, but I don't know how I did it. A quick tip would be welcome

you could turn off user account control (UAC), but this will affect security.

found this on the net:

Code:
http://elitehackerspro.blogspot.com/2007/06/microsoft-windows-vista-tweak-disable.html
you can suppress these prompts without disabling UAC by using the given command line prompt.

i did not test it cause i run xp and i already ****ed up vista on my girlfriends notebook. ( she did not notice, cause i reinstalled it in record time )

Check this site link. It provides four methods.
Code:

on the older Vista-installation I mentioned in post #1 (where everything was right!!!), I changed a bit the configuration, trying things out, and now that message pops up there. I disabled UAC with all 4 methods, message still appearing . . . bah, it's not a problem, I don't have to install software anymore there, I just start to guess that it will take some years for me to find out all "Vista-specials" and know how to deal with them. After about 4 years using XP, I am more or less able to have full control, so it will take some time for Vista as well . . .

The other (new) installation of Vista is working fine by the way. Very nice OS, although I still use XP quite often.
