Whenever i render in adobe aftereffects and premier on my quad core..its shows only 25 usuage of my cpu,why so??
how should i make it use all my 4 cores..have read that cs3 use all 4 cores...

this is normal, only few programs use more than one processor. Premiere and After Effects use multiple CPU's, but I don't really know to what extend. In After Effects, it must be manually activated in the preferences.

A good solution is the use of Nucleo Pro 2. With this render utility for After Effects you can use all of your processor power and do even 3dsmax or C4D renderings. I don't know the price exactly but I think it is worth the investment.

naaaa phil bro..nucleo is a disaster,,,
i had a very bad experience with it...
it actually sucks your ram 24/7 in the background for no use...and the day i uninstalled it,all my miseries ended...
neways cs2 seems doesnt not take of dual cores, but from what i have heard cs3 versions, make use of the latest multicores....
thanks guys..
cheers.raj:)

it also depends on what being done, ie some photoshop filters/plugins will use multithreading others wont. Same with AE. Then again say your rendering a simple scene in AE maybe more cores are not needed, because the bottleneck is literarly hard drive throuput. This would be even more noticeable in premiere i would imagine.....im saying that 1 of your four cores from a is pretty powerful on its own , is it being stressed to 100 % ?

My memory is abit foggy , but im pretty sure photoshop cs2 would often use my 2 cores ,not all the time miind you...but i recall watching them when doing some benchmarks that really stressed the cpu's. They didnt both stress to 100% , more like 60-70 %, .........

CS3 is better for sure, i only have dual core at the mo tho so cant say for quad.

AE cs3 seems to be quite different, it uses both cores , again not always 100%, and depending on what plugin is being used etc. It also (in settings) has another multithreaded mode i think, where it will render 2 frames at once, choosing this one must have a ton of ram , a bit like with nucleo , so the threads rendering each frame each have enuff ram , dunno if 2gig is enuff for this, 4 would be i guess. I also would assume u would need a good hard drive arrangement for this(as always...ie source footage on a different drive to where you rendder, and perhaps a seperate scratch disk)

sorry to be abit vague......

as smudgee said, it depends on the used plugins. And the hard drive arrangement. Also Nucleo is slow when I use a plugin that uses only one core. I'm not 100% sure, but I think it was the Magic Bullet plugin. In such cases you can't do anything to speed up rendering except of network rendering.

About Nucleo: I'm talking about Nucleo Pro 2 together with After Effects. Depending on the source files, you can export your Premiere project to After Effects and render it out. I really recommend to test it again, because of the following advantages:

-background rendering: you continue working on your project/comp, while Nucleo does the render job. Isn't that phantastic? You really have to experience this, it changes (speeds up) your workflow dramatically.

-fast rendering. After Effects is blocked, as normal, and Nucleo renders super-fast with all cores used. I made some tests (maybe posted here somewhere) and observed around 30% faster render times with a 6400 Core2Duo.

-3D rendering: you're working on a composite, and before going into After Effects, you must render out the 3D images. With Nucleo, you simply drag and drop the 3D project into the Nucleo render queue, and immediately start working with After Effects while the images drop in. No waiting anymore.

And 2 GB of RAM is enough for Nucleo to work. I have not encountered any problems with RAM blocking or something. When you close AE, Nucleo closes also, and your machine is "free". If I worked commercially, Nucleo Pro 2 would be the most wanted software to buy to increase productivity. So, think about it . . .

Well anyway, you surely have a powerful machine and your everyday work must have become easier, with or without Nucleo. I wish you all the best for your company and your work.
