tools to check the codes of keygens?

I found a lot of keygens downloaded (especially those from BT) are viruses or trojans. I would never open these DOS files. But sometimes I'm curious if some actually work as keygens.

I use free anti-virus program such as "AVG Antivirus" as my first defense. It tends to over-reacting that it picks up a lot of keygens as trojans. Some keygens are actually working but maybe it sends some messages home. I wonder if there is a tool that you can read the binary of a program that may help you to see what it does before trying?

Thanks for any suggestions.

to "look" inside a program you have to use a disassembler like OllyDbg or Idapro.
but it is nearly impossible to analyse code with no expirience.
i think the keygens included in the releases are safe. keygens from serial-sites often have a trojan delivered with them (dont start any additional crack.exe or install.exe files when there is a keygen.exe).
Often trojans found by scanners are simply false alarm. on my latest virus scan the keygens for cinema4d and mograph were deleted as trojans. i have had them on my harddrive for over a year and every scan was negative.

maybe you can run the suspicious file in a virtual pc like vmware. simple keygens should work and cannot harm your system.
