I think maxwell has a lot to go to be a real production work horse (unless you have a huge renderfarm ) all the maxwell type of renders can be achieved either with mental ray or vray. The tweaking of materials and lights takes time but once you know your way around the settings and you know what you are doing you can create blazing fast renders. And the good thing is that these biased renderers let you cheat! and do stuff that is not photorealistic aswell.
