Is there a consensus that C4D is the easier package to start with? My 12 year old son would like to start modeling props for games (Half-Life 2, TF2, Garry's Mod) and has asked what he should use. I'm familiar with Lightwave, but wasn't sure that he'd like it.
I work in both programs, and personally I find 3dsmax easier to learn. But I started with 3dsmax, if I had started with C4D I would probably say the contrary . . .
Your 12 year old son is playing Half-Life! Gulp! I found this game rather frightening at the age of nearly 40.:) But modding is very cool, and the more you look inside the polygons and textures, the less frightening a horror effect will be.

Same as phil999, i think 3dsmax are easier, but it`s because i dont start with c4d, nor i wanted to try it. But from my experiences, 3dsmax isn`t that hard to learn. I`ve teach a class of 70 people on a short course of introduction to 3d modelling with 3dsmax, they`re blind about 3d world at start, but in the end (4hours approx.) 99% of them can use 3dsmax and start modelling basic object like chair, table, etc. some even begin to create a detailed object, wich surpasses my expectation. Well, maybe that`s because they eager to learn, even at beginning they don`t know anything about 3d.
