Welding a lathed object's core

In what circumstances would you NOT weld a lathed object's core in MAX?

I can't think of one except to create more complex geometry internally for stuff like explosions etc?

Anyone any ideas of real world examples they've used?

Thank you

Marta

What I mean of course is put a LATHE modifier on a spline, not a loft! Sorry getting old!!

So to rephrase my question; if you lathe a spline into say, a vase, MAX asks you if you want to weld the core. As this reduces vertices etc, I was curious as to when you might NOT want to do this and, if so, why does MAX ask if you do?

Thank you.

ah, I see. I'm not too familiar with those terms either. I don't exactly remember that dialog (and at the moment all machines are not accessible), but I guess it is what you said, it welds the points together that are at the same spot. Click yes for vases and glasses.

One might not want to weld those points if the shape is not completely closing and those vertices will still be used.

I wish you much fun with modeling.

Is modeling fun when you're trying to make a living out of it? AutoCad is fine, as is Revit for architecture, but 3DS Max does my head in! I'm glad I'm not a renderer/vizualizer/walkthu person!

Hey I just wanna draw buildings - the touch-feely stuff I'll leave to others.:)
