Will buy a Mac pro. But never used a mac in my life.

Well.. The title says everything.
I will buy a mac pro soon:
- 2x Dual-Core Intel Xeon 5100 Series 2.66 GHz
- 3 GB (2x512 MB and 2x1 GB)
- NVidia GeForce 7300GT, PCI Express, 256 Mb
- SATA II 250 GB

Since I never used any Mac in my life, I have some questions. (well.. a lot a of them actually:) )

1- Since I want to use 3DS MAx and Autocad on it. What is the best I can do: Install Windows XP (dual boot?!?!?) or use any emulator?
2- Windows XP 64bits is compatible?
3- What about Vista? 32 and 64 bits? (I already installed once in my PC and I really prefer XP, but maybe in mac it's run more smoothly!?
4- What's exactly Bootcamp? a dualboot??
5- About Photoshop! Is it better running in OSX or XP?
6- And any sugestion u could have for a totally mac noob like myself.

Thanks for any advice u could tell me.

PS: I was interested in the mac pro with 2x Quad-core but the seller tell me that it's not worth the price right now.

First of all , Once U go mac U never go back! AND that true i used 2 be a pc lover, not anymore, since i bought my macbook pro, u will see. Yes u can dual boot , runs even better. funny but true u can also do parallels and bootcamp on the same windows, that pretty cool so u can do boot windows or in osx u can open parallels and again go back to your installed(bootcamp) windows.

Bootcamp is like a little program that helps u to install windows as it would be native os, and also it helps u to burn on a cd your mac drivers, so your windows works perfectly with the mac hardware.

Anyway in case of more , doubs, u should go to apples website. there is enough info.

i got a mac since a few months so iam also a noob but i got already windows on my macbook pro windows running with xsi and zbrush , and runs everything perfectly.

You should get the ATI X1900 instead of the nVidia card...it just sucks.

Sure the ATI card is a bit outdated, but it's still better than the nVidia card.

running windows XP right now on my mac pro. :-)

I used bootcamp to create the drivers cd for windows.
put in a second harddisk, and install windows on it.
then on osx change your startup disk to be the one with XP.

if you want to run OSX, just hold your alt key when your computer makes the startup sound.

Thanks for all ur reply...
I already install Xp x64 on it and run really fine. (need to install the 64bit version to use all my ram). I have some missing drivers but all run smoothly.. Really the best buy I already did. I never see XP running so quickly. It starts and turns off in 10 seconds.
And about 3ds max! Damn... Rendering really fast... Any render which took 7/8 hours in my old Pentium 4, takes only 15 minutes MAXIMUM in my macpro. And with double resolution and all render configs set to MAXIMUM too.
So if anyone want to buy a new PC, you really should buy a MacPro. Cheaper than a Dell with exactly the same configuration and u can use both worlds (OSX and Windows).

I have that exact configuration for my machine, although I am a Mac user since the old 512.
Once you get confortable with Mac OS, you will not want to use Windows anymore. In my case I don't use 3d max, I use maya, so I use it in the Mac side, same as Photoshop. For Rhino I use Parallels, works fine (but will not work with max).

I have started to use Mac for over a year now. Love it. I moved most of my web programming over to the MacBookPro and it has been quiet a positive experience.

OS X is great, much more intuitive than any of the *nix window managers or Windows. Everything seems so... elegant. :)

I agree! Having really pulled a major mistake 2 years ago and bought a PC box, which cost a chunk of change, and never gave me anything but grief, I recently went back to Mac, with relief! I am still getting settled in, but I am happy.

Macs rule!
