good news

I recently spoke to an apple care tech and i had mentioned that i was advised to delete the preferences for garageband, he told me that he was going to advise the same thing. i also mentioned to him about the permissions, he helped me out step by step on how to change them, but then he told me to go to the apple page and download garageband 3.0.4. he mentioned that this downoad would work. and so far the application has yet to freeze up on me. thanks for all the help.

It seems that the apple key does a lot...I just figured out how to copy and paste after a few days of frustration..I think I might actually buy the manual for my imac. You have to wonder how much money big companies save by not printing out manuals anymore.

To avoid all these permissions pbs, you should run
Code:
once a month.

for the new mac user

You might want to get a copy of Disk Warrior just to keep things happy and healthy with your new Mac. I would have mentioned techtool pro but I know the new macs come with it (mine did).

Good luck.

You can do it with Disk Utility as well.

Select your hard drive and click the 'Repair Disk Permissions'.

Works fine.

Often times it is simply a matter of repairing permissions. Go to Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility. You need to click on the drive you want repaired in the left drawer, then repair permissions by clicking on the button at the bottom. Good luck.
