I get the news that gelato pro 2.2 will be free from the inquirer and techconnect magazine, but if you look at nvidia homepage it still says you require license to use gelato pro features.
Gelato required nvidia quadro card to run, eventough i can run it with my old card 7800gtx. i`ve try it with 3dsmax (via amaretto plugins), you can view what`s 3dsmax features are supported by gelato in their website. Well, i can`t pull any good result from it, maybe it`s my stupidity :), but there`s so much important feature in max that aren`t supported by gelato. If you want to utilize the best of gelato, you must write your own shader in glsl language, and i ain`t no programmer, nonono, i`m just a lazy artist :)
For rendering speed, i never compare it (gpu render vs cpu render) because i`ve lost interest with this, even more so with the help of holomatix rendition i can get a quick glance of what the final result will be.
Until now, i can`t see any great result from this renderer. No feature movie or anything that`s make gelato serious candidate for final renderer, if anyone know any serious great work done by gelato, please post here :)
My dream is just i hope i can use my gpu (that`s always nvidia until now) to help my processor render the scene in max with mental ray renderer (or any renderer you may use). It`s just i still can`t accept the fact that with the power of today gpu, they`re just sleep all night when the processor doing all the bloody job alone, along with the fact that my current gpu cost MORE than my processor!! Aarrrghhh~~~
Just try it phil, maybe you can pull good render with this version :)
