Autodesk Maya 2008 Service Pack 1 update for free download
Autodesk Maya 2008 Service Pack 1 includes a number of fixes for Autodesk Maya 2008 across several functional areas including:
*API
*Character Rigging & Skinning
*Polygon Modeling
*Rendering (including mental ray)
Note that the above SP1 is NOT a "patch"
but the whole shebang, (Maya 2008 WITH Sp1).
Meaning that you have to uninstall the following
3 parts before attempting to to install above Sp1;
1. Autodesk Direct Connect
2. Maya Documentation (which for some ungodly reason took forever, 20 minutes+)
3. Maya
If you fail to uninstall any of the above parts you will waste
lotsa time (like I happened to do) watching the installer go on
and suddenly stop and then telling you that it quit because of one
of the above parts being already installed.
One nice note though;
You don't have to uninstall the "Bonus Tools for Maya 2008"
or the "Maya 2008 Extension 1 Muscle System" if you happen
to have them already installed.
Maya Sp1 found them both =)

They are two different things.
The Maya 2008 Extentions 1 & 2 give Maya new tools and functions,
The Maya 2008 Service Pack 1 fixes bugs and stuff.

Yes, Extension 2 is out but the version out is a whole install of Maya 2008 WITH Extension 2. Meaning you have to uninstall your current Maya to be able to install Extension 2.
Extension 1 contains different tools than Extension 2
and is only a 10MB install.
I believe it is still available in the forum.
