I personly think the funniest thing about the whole deal is how the guys who run it have started to say 'pixologic' type things like 'wait and see' and 'more info coming soon' :)
Skymatter just had to face facts...zbrush won the war of the poly counts so had to sell if they didn't want to lose their shirts.
It seems that most 3D application now include some kind of sculpting tool (Modo 301, Silo 2, Hexagon, blender and so on) so maybe the tool set of mudbox will make it to a future version of Max and Maya (2009) which would be nice.
Mudbox is an excellent tool with a clear and easy interface, so it will be sad if it disappear as a standalone application
