I've read a lot of comments on various forum about the "lack of improvements" in max 2008 but as a mental ray user I must admit I'm really excited by this release :)

I´ve seen the videos. If this is all that´s new to max 2008 than it is a pretty shame. I mean, c´mon, the modeling tools deserve a lot more improvments than just the easy switching between sub-tools. In my opinion there is a big lack with the selection tools. Just take an example at modos selection tools. They are far better and "smarter" than in max.

The one`s who got better attention from autodesk is no doubt maya, there`s a lot of improvement on modeeling, skinning, ncloth, etc that makes us 3dsmax user feel like abandoned in the middle of the desert. No mental ray improvement can make up for this because anything max mr can do, maya mr can do it too. But i dont want to jump into maya yet, because it means i should learn from the basic all over again.

In the long run I think it is the best to start to play around with some new apps that are available because it is them who currently bring the great news in 3D industry (zbrush, modo). They are quick to learn and are easy integrated with max.

I agree with gemini, max is getting left behind at least in the modelling tools, so I think it´s better to start adding some other apps to your workflow, I´m gonna start learning modo, besides it has a much cooler interface than max! hehehe

I agree with hiroguchi_saitou, Maya is the "Vedette" of autodesk

mainly coming from the architectural side of 3d. i got all excited about eh AEC tools and i dont even use them at all..I dont know too many people in my area of 3D that do. Most of us never use the wall tools(only use NURBS) maybe for a quick window or door but thats it. I started to learn C4D and Maya I am getting frustrated with Max. I still use it daily but Its needs some sprucing up.

My 2 cents

Nice vids by the way:)
