If you aren't worried much about the professionalism, Publisher would be a viable solution, but is not a PROFESSIONAL solution. It would be best left to things such as office newsletters and simple final products where it wouldn't really matter much.
I totally agree. If you have the time try to find your way through InDesign - it will definitely pay off.

If you google for InDesign-books, you will encounter a whole bunch of expensive books on that topic. My suggestion is, to buy a book of the former version. For example: "Real World InDesign CS2" is on the market for around 30 $ (which isn't really expensive). But when you buy "Real World InDesign CS", you will have to spend under 10 $, if you look at amazon.com marketplaces. I find it helpful to have a book at hand instead of looking at tutorials on screen - but that is a question of personal liking.

actually i am new in the field of lay-outing, and i start about a month's ago, i think i found difficulties because of the articles they gave, and its hard to manipulate cause of its length, the alloted space was too small sometimes too large.... i think i need to search more ang look for some samples that might help me finding solution to my problem..

avoid MS Publisher

Publisher is a useful page layout program if your goal is to print the end result to an inkjet printer. Publisher uses a RGB color space (meaning that it likes to represent colors using the same approach as that of your display screen or web site). This creates no end of problems when trying to send a file to a commercial printer.

I'm not complaining because I spend my day charging good money to fix these problems. Maybe Microsoft will get more compatible with PostScript as time goes on but it is not very likely since Adobe and Microsoft are in a legal battle about how Microsoft handles Acrobat files in the new Vista OS. Again it is the user that loses by having to purchase and learn workaround applications just to get a simple job done on time...

But keep in mind that I'm happy with the status quo since I see no shortage of work for me during the next 3 to 5 years...

Yep... agree with almost everyone. I´ve worked for 10 years with QXPress 4 and 5 and it´s unbeatable in some aspects.. buy if you pretend a streamlined workflow between Adobe products (and I mean... who do NOT work with Illustrator and Photoshop??) you will MUST switch once and for all to Indesign Cs2 or CS3.
I haven´t switch yet but thatá a very good program to layout your printed page design. Obviously.
S, in my humble opinion: Indesign cs3 it´s the one. PROFFESSIONAL one hundred percent.
