I do some 3d work , mainly in carrara ,altho i have 3dsmax also.
Im trying some experiment with a designer /builder who uses autocad , with the idea of making some nice renderings or animations/fly thrus of his designs. He uses autocad 2004.
Ive just looked at AC 2007, and it says about mental ray integrated in it, I browsed the autodesk gallery but there was nothing good there. SO im wondering about AC2007 for rendering , is it any good ? Does it do global illum. ?
Or should I just export to max and then to carrara (which im most familiar with) and texture in that .
Yeah..also he oppsite flow, can Ac2007 import models ,obj ,max,3ds etc ?
I see all the nice evrermotion and dosch stuff , are yooz just using all that in max,etc or autocad too.
Whatabout deep exploration (righthemisphere) is that a better bridge from Autocad to rendered stuff . I grabbed it , and looked at the web site, just aint got my head around it usefullness yet (or installed it).
Forget about using Autocad for rendering, it?s not a production rendering software, mainly it?s a 2D CAD drawing program with some 3D features, but very basic. You can model in Autocad if you are used to it and work fast with it, but keep in mind that it?s very limited. 3dmax and others programs have a lot better workflow and autocad is no match for them in terms of 3D modelling and rendering.
As for dosch and evermotion objects libraries, you can use them on any 3D software package that accept the the standard files types. Even if the object comes only as a *.max file you can convert it to a 3ds or whatever thru 3dsmax.
It?s up to you, just forget about using autocad2007 for production rendering because it?s no good.
i tried autocad 2007, and beleive it is nut that much of a render.
i dont know why dont you go directly to 3ds max. it is very professional and with vray per example can give realistic results. pm me if you need any help with max or vray
IMHO Max+Final Render is the best for rendering. For alternative you may use Maxwell render - stand alone render (it has plugins for most popular software and very good results, but render get lots of time).
Sorry for my bad english
hmm thanks for your input , yeah I didnt wanna make work for myself , or lose layers etc, I only briefly looked at his autocad 2004 , saw that it had matearials etc, i was wondering if I updated him to 2007 autocad , Then we could both just work in that , but seems no from your posts that rendering is not production quality . Coming from autodesk I thought it might be 3dsmax with an architectual bent , but seems not .
Im guessing that there's no advantage for me to even install autocad , when 3dsmax can import *.dwg ?
Thanks again,im cool with dosch meshes into my 3d apps , again i was wondering if autocad could use them , i was imagining autocad was the nuts for 3d ,but I trust your word & i will just use them as usual in max or carrara.
i think u use the autocad in building 2d lines and base for 3d
and after u finish the 2d u have to export it to 3dmax and start to build ur model
and this my advice don`t build 3d in autocad and export it to max becouse it makes problems
well autocad 2007 does now come with mental ray.. and supports full global illumination.. actually is got everything for arch visulizations now in it.. if u know how to use it.. thou i still prefer doing it in vray just cause its faster..

What do you mean faster crunk ? the rendering or the workflow ?
