Paint Shop Pro

Well, casting another vote here... I used 7 for a long time, got 8 but didn't really make a switch then... 9 came along and I tried it, learned it, love it, and don't use 7 now, or have it installed any longer. I even did a pre-release purchase on X when it was announced, but I haven't installed it... and didn't bother with 11 or XI or whatever they are calling it, as it is only a photo tool, really. I prefer Photoshop for most photographic work, simply because it was my first, and the one I am most familiar with... but for playing around, nothing beats PSP because of the "tubes"... sure, you can do that with layers in PS, but you can't share them. So I started playing with PSP because of the tubes... but it was my skills from PS that made me a better "tuber" in PSP.

I agree, now that Corel has gained ownership of PSP, it's going in a different direction than JASC was taking it. But that's what happens. At least they didn't shut it down. Some companies, MS for example, buy another, and it disappears into the woodwork.

I really like PSP 9 over 7 because it has a few neat features that were introduced in 8, but made a bit more reliable in 9. I love it that we have a PSP area here on GFX!

I've also used PSP for several years. It was the first software of the kind I got in touch with. I still use it for many simple tasks which are faster and nicer to perform in PSP than in for example Adobe PS.

Like many of the people here, I have used PSP since v6, and Photoshop since v8. I have always preferred PSP because it was easier on memory, and it didn't keep "calling home like PSP".

When Corel came out with 10, I was not impressed. It felt like they released it only for branding purposes. XI came with some new stuff, but yoiu did have to play with it or read some stuff to find all the features. Once I got used to it, I never went back because it simply has more features!

Now Corel Paint Shop Pro Photos X2 - a new release, has gone back to it's basics ~ to be a solid, less expensive, competitor to Photoshop. This new release is very nice, like before read about it! They have added some nice advanced featres that I love. you just have to locate them. Also if opening a feature, look for the word Advanced. Why? Most selections open with a simple interface with a few options. advanced lets you tweak so much more! It can essentially grow with the user.

If you read any reviews it talks about photos, don't get thrown by that, simply substitute the word image or creation. Corel is pushig this as a paind AND photo tool. They are keeping the more Artsy descriptions for their higher priced software.

If you are a PSP fan try Corel PSP x2. This software is not part of the CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X3 series.
