Modo Backdrop Transparency/Gain

When I use background image in XSI, I lower the gain to 50% and the white part of the image completely disappears, but the rest of the image stays fairly prominent so I can use the image, but the white of the backdrop does not interfere any more with the white of my geometry/curves.

How do I this in Modo? The backdrop's white is so bright, I can't work with it in present condition.
