yes i would second that too, it really depends upon what type of industry u want to focus on, and it can decide ur choice of the 3d application.

but also keep in mind that u will find a much larger user/forum database for support needed for max/maya vs xsi or others...

I will suggest you 3DS Max. It is easy to learn, besides you can find lots of tutorials and plugins about Max. Its GUI is also user friendly. I tried to learn Maya but did not like the GUI.

Dipped of you idea how to work on 3D you can choice software. 3D max have it lot of support and lot of tutorial , MAYA is more script powerful, XSI ... it is amasing but hard to learn.
