Max rant - just want to vent

Hi guys,

First up. Top site and groovy bunch of members....you've all helped me countless times and not even realised it :)

I'm currently uninstalling Max 9 32 bit that I have installed on my Vista machine and I'm heading back to good old Max 8. 9 just shits me with the difficulty in installing plugins. I've followed advice to the T on how to install vray for example and had no luck. Stupid damn 127 errors. Then good old plugins that i've used and loved such as DirtyReyes don't get recognised. And while Cebas Flares is 'supposed' to be the bomb, in my opinion you can give me back Pro Optic suite instead!

And then before you get to terms with a touchy release of Max, Autodesk come along and release a newer version!

I'm sure a lot of you will debate my rather worthless little rant but as a CG artist (not professionally but have been with Max since version 3) I don't wanna have to fart about with the backend of any software.....I want to enjoy being creative at the front end.

So back to good old version 8 I go. What are your thoughts guys? Which version do you most prefer?

And thanks for reading.....you're all legends!

hello mattricks, welcome to the board and thank you for the flowers (well I do not deserve them, but thanks anyway:)__).

I'm using v.9 on XP32 and 64, in Vista64 I had only trouble with that version. I thought only v.2008 and v.2009 are compatible with Vista. Never used Vista32 though.

I use Vray only when I must, e.g. opening scenes from the internet. When MentalRay is already implemented, I don't see the reason to install Vray extra. But that's just me, because I'm too lazy to go through that Vray jungle of settings.

Since it is obvious now that Autodesk will release a new version every year, I canceled my plan to purchase a license. It is just silly and makes no sense at all. Maybe in a few years if I find a cheap offer for v.9 or an older version I could buy it, but probably I will continue to use it inofficially and prefer cheaper (and sometimes even better) or free 3D-programs.
