What kind of hardware would be able to run Maya like in this demo movie?

Hello everyone.
I just checked the maya 8.5 nCloth demo from Autod3sk website and the interaction speed within Maya is really fast that I haven't seen anything that fast before. What's even more surprising is that the demo was running under windoze machine too... it wouldn't shocked me as much if it were running on Linux
(Btw, on the demo, the guy used a laptop though. Anyone can identify what brand and model of the laptop?)

So, if you would check the video and see the interaction speed of the machine this demo was being shown on.... does any of you able to run Maya with that kind of interactivity speed?
(Check how the guy pan and zoom the viewport.. it's really fast )

If you do, please share what kind of machine configuration that you have including the OS.

Here's the video : (10 Megs)

or if for some unknown reason, you'd prefer to get it outside of autod3sk server.. here's the rapidshare link.. lol

when i went to the demos for both maya and max the guy said that they were running a high end hp machine mainly cause hp was sponsoring the event, but i believe he said they were dual core machines with 6 gigs of ram

I see. Thanks N-Forced. Maybe HP do produce great/fast machines, as Avid's Nitris/Adrenaline system are also being sold with HP machines.
I'm using dual core 3Ghz with only 1 gig of RAM, but I don't think that much RAM would provide such extreme speed difference (?), especially because of the 4 gigs limit of contiguous RAM access in 32-bit system.

Hi seishirou

Sure they would have used some big fat HP.
i assume you cant afford this kind of hardware at home?
I can tell you my specs and expieriences:

Core 2 Duo E6600 (overclocked to stable 3.0 GHz without probs and boxed cooler)
2 Gigs of Ram
Gforce 7900 with 512 Megs Ram
Fast Sata II HD´s (about 1,5 Terabyte no raid)

And i can work with 3ds Max 9.0 very fast. MR or Vray renderer very fast
You cant recommend only this one . It depends on what you will make .
And cloth or hair sim is not the only criteria for the specs.
Will you have Objects with high polycounts? Or will you do just low res things...do you want to make only stills or animation...??
Just my 2 cents

Yeah, you're right Hades. I can't afford to buy a machine that would cost as much as a new car yet... lol
I do mostly animations and I'd probably deal with high poly counts.
Thanks for your specs, as I'm planning to get a second machine in few months.
Probably would use XP 64 and upped the RAM to like 8 gigs or something.

Hi seishirou

Keep in mind that the more Ram the better but keep also an eye on fast HD´s
64 Bit is good for using more Ram but it has a lack of good drivers .....
