about materials and textures which created problems sometimes (no render because a bitmap or ior file could not be found). Here is the solution:
put all your materials into a folder. It is a good idea to make several subfolders for wood, glass, liquids, etc. The downloaded materials must be unpacked, in my opinion it is good to unpack into seperate folders. Make sure that these folders have no subfolders, this may give some manual work, but it's worth it as you keep your folder structure tidy.
In mxst, in preferences, point to your mxm folder.
In 3dsmax, Customize>Preferences, click the Maxwell tab, point to your mxm folder also. Additionally, in Customize>Configure User Paths, click the external files tab and add the mxm folder, including the subpaths. A bunch of paths will be added.
Like this, you will be able to load Maxwell materials from mxst and 3dsmax and render without problems. All textures will be found. Man it took me quite long to set these things right, especially when using Maxwell 1.0 which was a bit buggy. That's why I did not work much with Maxwell and its material editor (mxed) in that time. Now everything is simple and easy.
another useful hint:
if you want to open mxcl e.g. for resuming, create a shortcut to mxcl.exe. Right click on this shortcut, and in the properties add " -d" (with a space) to the target. Then the renderer starts with gui and you can resume a render.
