Quite unusual, morbid even-though I don't mean this in any harsh kind of a way. Is there any kind of influence or story behind this that might enable me to understand it a lot better? Striking to say the least :)

I have always been into drawing and sketching skulls....many reasons....I am really bad at portraits.....so I started working with the skulls without the skin to try and help me along...then just liked working with skinless portraits....
It also helps me with my tattoo designs...skulls will always be big in tattoos.
