I used very long time a IrfanView. For me is very good image viewer.

I suggest to use two programs.
If you want only view images I suggest an old version of Acdsee (3.1 or 4.x)
very very very fast to open image, but slow to get thumbnail and don't support exif.
if you want to manage your collection then you can use FotoStation Pro, the more complete solution for professionals
