Well, obviously I would sugest Adobe Software... They have a nice learning curve, and are very very powerfull once you get to know them.

The problem, obviously, is the price... $3000 for a Suite is a lot, specially for a starting studio, but if you're buying the hardware (presumably Mac's, cameras, lights, etc), the price you pay for the software is a small percentage.

You could opt for Final Cut, Shake, and Combustion (all Mac), but Adobe's CS3 is compatible with Mac anyway...

Regarding Animation, I don't have experience with any software, so I'll leave it to the animation guys at this forum.

Hope I was helpful.

I don't do animation but for film I recommend using Sony Vegas 8 Pro. The latest version support Blue Ray. It also comes with DVD architect to build DVD menu and also support their awesome camera, the XDCAM

i would recommend Final Cut Pro. From my view it is the most flexible editing tool out there. Main point is that it is very scalable - from DV to 4K - everything is possible. In a very attractice price range.

It's a toss-up between Final Cut and Adobe Premiere Pro. As mentioned previously, Final Cut and Premiere are compatible with each other, and each have powerful features, but I'd lean towards Final Cut, even though you can do a lot with Premiere and the rest of the Creative Suite.

Just a suggestion

Hey man - I do not mean to be in any way insulting but if you have to ask this question I would suggest that you are not quite ready to start a studio.
I would spend some time playing with a few versions first and then when you have your main "NEEDS" worked out make the right decision.

Some questions like For TV or Film or both?
For DVD or web streaming or mobiles?
For everything ? Not recommended as a start up!
Do you intend to create your own 3D animations? If so the pipeline needs to "WORK"= eg Autodesk 3Dstudio Max with Combustion as an example.
There are others of course.
Pure video editing for the not so complicated stuff - well there are many progs that will do that. ie Premier eg
If you want serious after FX then Shake or After Fx or whatever but they are all very time consuming and for everyday work often superfluous.
I am sure others can tell you even more options and combinations.
The entire range of high end stuff from Austodesk ie Toxic, Flame etc
are solutions but in whatever direction you go you need the right people to get these programs to be "PRODUCTIVE" within "TIMELINES"
These are some aspects that need serious deliberation especially if you are a start up group.
Hope this helps
