Everyone has a begining to do something. I work in 2D Drawings, lines, sketch, colors, paintings then I moved to CorelDRAW, PHotoshop, Flash, After Effects and 3ds Max. I received a request from one of my customers. He requested me to do an animated short for a documental of teaching. His main focus is the message that he 's gonna give with the product. But I would really appreciate that if some of you have some knowlegde about what book can I buy about animated shorts, or tutorials, or websites, PDFs, etc.
That animated short should implement characters but I have the doubt of "trying" to make them in 3d, or in 2D. I will make the environments in 3dsmax, such as all the objects put in the escenes. But, I don't really know how to make a composite of the 2d drawings with the animations into the 3d animated environment. Somebody suggested me to use Poser in order to use the sketchs in the poses, but the problem is that the face of the characters won't be the one that I want. I would like to thank anybody that could suggest me whatever he thinks, please...
Other thing: The short it is going to be rendered on its final release in a cartoon cell shader.
If you are new to animating characters Toomboom Studio is probably
one of the easiest tools to learn and get up to speed with.
Hope this helps =)
PS. if there is one book I would recommend when it comes to learning
character animation it has to be the book "The Disney Animation - The Illusion of Life"
This book is often called "the Bible of animation" unfortunately it is really hard to find =\
"The Disney Animation - The Illusion of Life" is for hard core traditional animators . I wont suggest you this unless you really want to get into animation full time . I been training traditional animation for more than 3 years & ask me about how tough this is . Yes Toon Boom Studio is your best choice . get Animator's Survivor Kit & that should do fro you . If you need my help I'm here always . I would recommend you 2D because its lot easier if you can draw . best wishes . Regards .
In Toon Boom u can actually put 2D characters in 3D space, just check out their specs in the site (but as I hav used it, I know that the learning curves is a bit stiff, and also the editing tools are a bit cumbersome)

anime studio has it as well
I saw this function in its help content.
But i don't really know which one is better in 3d space.
You have to try on.
My opinion is such:
Be honest with your client that such a work is not one of your specialities, and leave it to someone who knows what to do to deliver the needed work.
I do not agree with anyone who wants to learn, and get experience at the expense of others.
